- Emergency: on site within 2 hours, anywhere in Luxembourg

Before you call: water heater not working, what to do
- Switch off the heater's power — At the fuse box, on the circuit for the water heater. Especially if there's water around it.
- If it's leaking, shut off the cold water — The cold supply valve is on the pipe going into the tank, often just above the safety valve group. If you can't find it, close the main stopcock.
- Protect the floor — Bucket, towels. Don't drain the tank yourself: the water can be scalding.
- Note the details — Photograph the rating plate (brand, capacity in litres) and where it's leaking. Send them on WhatsApp: it saves us a lot of time.
Don't take off the heater's electrical cover or touch the thermostat wiring, especially if water is running nearby. Leave the water heater switched off until we arrive.
The most common water heater faults
The safety valve is dripping
While the water heats, a few drips from the safety valve outlet are normal: the water expands. If it runs constantly, the valve is scaled up or worn and needs replacing.
No hot water at all
Tripped breaker, faulty thermostat or heating element. Check the fuse box first: if the breaker trips again, don't reset it a second time, call us.
Lukewarm water or it runs out fast
Limescale build-up in the tank, thermostat set wrong, or a tank that's now too small for the household.
Dirty hot water, noises in the tank
Rusty or cloudy hot water, banging or crackling while heating: often limescale at the bottom of the tank, sometimes a tank that's wearing out. We check the tank and heating element before telling you what's worth doing.
The tank itself is leaking
A leak from the body of the tank rather than a fitting usually means the tank has corroded through. It can't be repaired: the heater needs replacing. We'll tell you straight and price the replacement.
What our plumber checks on site
The diagnosis finds the cause before anything gets replaced. We check, in order:
- The power supply to the heater, from the fuse box: a breaker that trips often points to a faulty heating element.
- The thermostat, which controls heating and cuts out if it overheats.
- The heating element: if it's burnt out, there's no heat; if it's scaled up, it heats poorly.
- The safety valve and fittings: leaks, discharge, limescale.
- The tank: a leak from the body of the heater can't be repaired.
Repair or replace the water heater?
If the faulty part can be swapped (thermostat, heating element, safety valve, fitting), we repair it: that's usually the cheaper option. If the tank has failed, or the heater keeps breaking down, replacing it makes more sense.
In that case you get a free quote: a like-for-like replacement or a heater better suited to your household, depending on capacity and location. You decide afterwards, with no obligation.
Évier bouché. Ponctuel, efficace et d’une grande gentillesse. Il a remarqué directement quel était le problème et m’a donné des conseils d’entretien. Transparence sur les prix et travail bien fait.
How the job works
We repair electric water heaters. A gas appliance or boiler needs a heating engineer: tell us which appliance you have when you call.
How much does a water heater repair cost in Luxembourg?
The price depends on the part (safety valve, thermostat, element), access to the tank and time of day. A full replacement is priced by capacity and location.
Either way, you hear the total including 17% VAT before we travel. See our prices.
Looking after your water heater so it lasts
- Operate the safety valve for a few seconds once a month so it doesn't scale up.
- Water in Luxembourg is often hard: descaling the tank regularly protects the heating element.
- A sensible temperature setting reduces limescale and energy use.
Frequently asked questions
My safety valve is dripping – is that serious?
A few drips while heating are normal. A constant flow means the valve needs replacing.
Do you repair or replace water heaters?
We repair where possible (safety valve, thermostat, element). If the tank is leaking, replacement is the only option: the quote is free and you get it first.
Plumber or electrician: who do I call when the water heater breaks down?
For an electric water heater, our plumber handles the water side (safety valve, fittings, leak) and the heating side of the tank (thermostat, element). If the main breaker also trips with other appliances, the problem is in your home's wiring: you need an electrician.
Can you come in the evening?
Yes, 24/7. A night or weekend surcharge may apply and we tell you first.
How much does the call-out cost?
It depends on the fault and access. You get the price including VAT before we travel. Starting prices are on our prices page.
Do you work on gas boilers?
No. We work on electric water heaters. For a gas appliance or boiler, contact a heating engineer.
How long does a water heater last?
It mostly depends on limescale and maintenance. Water in Luxembourg is often hard: operating the safety valve monthly and descaling the tank make it last longer. A leaking tank usually means the end.
Do you repair heat pump water heaters?
Send us a photo of the rating plate on WhatsApp: we'll tell you honestly whether we can work on that model.
I rent: who pays for the water heater repair?
It depends on your lease and on the cause. Check your rental agreement and tell your landlord or the building manager. You get an itemised invoice and a job report describing the fault.
