Slammed or locked: the difference that changes the price
A slammed door is held only by the latch, the angled bolt that clicks in when you push the door shut. Nobody turned the key.

Search how to open a door that slammed shut and you'll soon find the credit card trick: a plastic card, a loyalty card or a strip cut from a soda bottle slid between the door and the frame to push the latch back.
It only works on some simple doors with play in the frame. On a recent flat entrance door, a security door or a door with an anti-shim guard, it fails. Keep at it and you often damage the seal, the door edge or the frame, and the repair ends up costing more than the lockout call. If the door is locked, no card will open it.

Not necessarily. If the door was opened without damage and your keys were simply inside, your lock is still secure. No need to pay for a new cylinder.
